Daniel M. Smith began his career in the financial services industry in 1978.  Dan received his Bachelor of Science degree from Villanova University and his Juris Doctorate degree from The Delaware School of Law of Widener College.  He was admitted to the New Jersey Bar Association in 1975.*

Dan is a Founding Sponsor and an Executive Board of Director member of the University of New Haven Center For Family Business.  Additionally, Dan is a member of the Connecticut Tax Planning Council and serves on the Development Committee of the Community Foundation of Greater New Haven.  Previously, Dan had been President of the Shoreline Foundation from 1995 – 2002 and  stepped down in July, 2006 from being a member of the Board of Governors of the University of New Haven, serving as Chair of the Investment Sub-Committee.

Dan is presently Co-Chair of the Guilford Fund for Education.  He obtained his Certified Family Business Specialist Designation from the American College at Bryn Mawr in 1998 along with the Accredited Estate Planner designation.  In July of 2003 he earned the Certified in Long Term Care (CLTC) Designation and in 2004 earned the designation of Chartered Special Needs Consultant (ChSNC) enabling him to work with families with disabilities. 

Dan is a Wilmington resident.  He is married to his wife, Barbara, and they have two daughters, Sabrina and Cassandra.
