Family Business Planning

Family Business owners are unique.  Their multiple challenges of perpetuating the business, achieving harmony amongst family members, remaining competitive in an increasing global environment, are not issues that are easily addressed in one place or with one advisor.

In 1994, Daniel M. Smith & Associates helped to create the University of New Haven Center For Family Business, to create a forum where family business owners could come to and learn about solutions to many of their unique problems.

As a Founding Sponsor of the University of New Haven Center For Family Business, we have had the opportunity to not only provide education to family businesses, but to also learn about the family business from the owner’s point of view.

Today’s business owner relies on the Attorney, the CPA, the Banker and the Insurance Broker, but they need to create and define the family’s goals within the business first, before they are ready to work with the advisory team.

With an average annual membership of seventy family businesses over a twenty year history, the Sponsors and the family businesses have all developed a heightened sense of the complexity of the issues and the necessary dialogue that must ensue before solutions
can be implemented.

As a graduate of the Certified Family Business Specialist Program at The American College at Bryn Mawr, I look forward to being of continued assistance to this marketplace.
